Give us a micro biography of you as a sound artist/musician.
Well, within the semi-deconstructionist blues scene I’m quite possibly London’s number one experimental slide guitarist. I’m out there blending Western ghost acoustics with interstellar sonic fractals.
Tell us a little about the album.
Neocubist Blues is my fifth album. As usual, it’s just the ax and myself, some snappy tracks, some long. Initially I was reluctant to go public with it, due to an AI paranoia, combined with a social media distrust. I think we’re at scary co-ordinates for society when even the neo-cubist acoustic avant-garde becomes suspicious of new technology. First, I just sent the album to a lot of folks individually, whom I knew would be interested. Then it premiered officially on April Fools Day, after I suppressed this paranoia. By then it had been out unofficially for half a year or so. That’s why it’s an ambiguous 2025 vs 2026 copyright. As for AI, as soon as you publish your tunes AI engines are allowed to fully plagiarise them. And then use it to displace human music. How’s that possible? Whenever did we give permission? I join the chorus demanding answers.
Which is your personal favourite track on the album ?
Right now I’d say New Revisit, or maybe Analytical Cube...but it keeps changing. Anyway, it’s true of these two that the best listening volume is as loud as a real ax would be in your room. That’s quite a significant volume, with forceful guitar thrashing involved. But that’s the loudness level where it makes sense best. That’s actually a level where you can also make out the intricate bits precisely. I mean their special timbres too, from behind the wall of noise, such as, say, single-note harmonics weaved into the chords-thrash texture. I always aim to record stuff as if inspecting the guitar’s sound with a microscope, so to say. Try to reproduce every little rattle, rasp, buzz, bring the instrument up close via the loudspeakers. Almost make it tactile.
Are there any other artists that have appeared on Wormhole World that interest you?
For me the Lancastrian mogul of disrupted noise art and sepulchral ambience is definitely the one up there. Namely, Xqui.
What’s your favourite album by another artist ?
No such thing really. Let’s say, yesterday it was ‘Dizzy on the French Riviera’. Was spinning on repeat. I mean, Lalo Schiffrin on keys...RIP 2025...check out those piano solos in ‘No More Blues’. And obviously you get Dizzy, you get Elek Bacsik in that group. Produced by Quincy, hey! Pristine album. But a day before, I would have answered the ‘Dead. ‘Blues for Allah’...on repeat...again, I mean, what a disc!
Who or what do you consider your influences ?
Too many to name. I like remembering the founding fathers. Check out Mississippi John Hurt’s 1930s recordings if you haven’t heard them yet! Astonishing takes.
Do you have a favourite instrument or go-to sound making contraption ?
Well, not really. I use basic stuff.
